Atrex
Autonomous industrial robotics for high-risk environments
Atrex — Robotic tank cleaning and inspection
Atrex replaces hazardous manual labor with intelligent automation in oil, gas, and petrochemical industries. It is a robotic platform for tank cleaning and inspection, operated from a safe zone.

Current state
In oil and gas and heavy industry, hazardous surface cleaning is still largely done by hand. Workers use scaffolding, rope access, and elevated platforms to reach contaminated or hard-to-reach surfaces, then high-pressure water jetting to clean them. This happens in ATEX Zone 2 areas, often at height, in confined spaces, and around chemicals. The work is physically hard, depends on skilled labor, stretches maintenance cycles, and still puts people in potentially explosive environments.
Industry challenges in hazardous maintenance
Safety risks
- Confined-space entry
- Toxic and explosive atmospheres
- Direct human presence during manual work
Cost and efficiency
- High manpower and operating cost
- Long shutdowns and lost production
- Heavy dependence on manual labor
Operational limits
- Cleaning and inspection done as separate jobs
- Inconsistent quality and human error
- Access and fatigue that slow the work
Environmental concerns
- Difficult wastewater and debris handling
- Contamination risk during cleaning
The system
ATEX Zone 2
Certified for safe operation in potentially explosive atmospheres common in oil, gas, and petrochemical sites.
IP65 rating
Dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction — built for harsh industrial conditions.
Magnetic adhesion
Strong permanent magnets hold the robot on steel surfaces in any orientation: tanks, marine structures, and infrastructure.
Where it can be deployed
Storage tanks
Internal and external cleaning and inspection of crude oil, chemical, and water tanks, with magnetic hold on complex steel surfaces.
Marine and offshore
Ship hull cleaning, cargo-hold maintenance, and structural inspection of offshore platforms in high-humidity, corrosive settings.
Infrastructure
Wind-turbine inspection, pipeline maintenance, and surface preparation on large steel structures, using a modular setup for varied geometries.
Operational workflow
Site setup and safety
Utility equipment stays in the safe zone, outside the hazardous area.
Deployment
The robot is lowered into the tank through a manway with a winch or crane.
Operation — cleaning and inspection together
Remote-controlled from the safe zone, with magnetic adhesion. Cleaning and inspection run in the same pass — the core benefit.
Retrieval and reporting
The AI analysis engine produces a digital report the team can act on.
Operational benefits
Enhanced safety
- Remote operation in hazardous and explosive environments
- ATEX Zone 2 certified
Improved efficiency
- Cleaning and inspection in one operation
- Shorter shutdowns
Cost reduction
- Lower labor and operating cost
- Less downtime and lost production
Data-driven maintenance
- Accurate digital inspection reports
- AI-based planning for what to repair next
Environmental performance
- Up to 99% wastewater and debris recovery
- Optional filtration for recycling
Atrex AI
- Brings together LiDAR, computer vision, and phased-array ultrasonic sensing for a high-accuracy view of industrial surfaces.
- Detects and classifies cracks, corrosion, rust, pitting, and surface degradation, so teams rely less on walking the tank themselves.
- Builds a high-resolution 3D digital twin so engineers can see defects in space and track change over time.
- Turns raw inspection data into reports, risk maps, and maintenance insight — what to fix, where, and why.
